Vines
What is a Vine? A plant is a vine, by definition, if the stem is too weak to support vertical growth. There are two main types of vines, climbers and creepers. They both can grow on arbors, trellises or even other plants. Some are content just growing along the ground or over cliffs. Climbing vines need a structure that they can climb on, but they don't need any assistance in attaching themselves to the structure. Creeping vines can be used as a ground cover or as a vertical element in the landscape. Creepers need a structure to grow on and they need some training and ties to attach it to the structure.

Vines and Their Uses

Vines can be a attractive addition to any landscape. MedallionT Vines offer many different varieties for different uses in the landscape. Some examples of some vines and their uses are:

Winter Creeper( Euonymus fortunei): This is a broadleaf evergreen grown for it's foliage not its flower. This plant is very useful for erosion control. Clematis (Clematis): There are many different varieties of Clematis. There are varieties for the full sun and some that can tolerate light shade. The main point to remember with Clematis is to keep it's head (the plant) hot and it's feet (the roots) cool.
 

Virginia Creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia): This is a flowering vine that is not grown for it's flowers, but for it's brilliant fall foliage. The colours range from a brilliant red to burgundy.
Wisteria Vine (Wisteria): There are many different varieties of Wisteria. MedallionT Vines offer Chinese Wisteria (Wisteria sinensis), Japanese Wisteria (Wisteria floribunda) and American (Wisteria macrostachya). Wisteria can be used as "roofing" on an arbor.
Honeysuckle Vine (Lonicera): This is a flowering vine that does well in sun and shade, depending on the variety. This climber needs to be trained and even tied in some places to keep it's upright form. Both butterflies and hummingbirds find the flowers on this plant very desirable.
Silver Lace Vine (Polygonum aubertii) This is a very aggressive vine that can twine to heights of 10m. Does best in sunny locations and has fragrant clusters of white flowers. Blooms from the summer to early fall.
